On today’s podcast I’m talking with Allen Farrington.
Bitcoin enthusiasts will likely know Allen well. He’s the co-author of the highly regarded book Bitcoin Is Venice, which explores modern economic theories—the good and the bad. The book’s title is inspired by one of Allen’s essays, where he draws parallels between the attributes that made Venice one of history’s most successful cities and the revolutionary properties of Bitcoin as a monetary technology.
As you might expect, Allen believes Bitcoin could play a pivotal role in ushering in a new era of governance and global economic paradigms. In our conversation, we discuss Venice’s remarkable 1,000-year success story and eventual decline, as well as Allen’s perspective on the Sovereign Individual thesis—a concept we see increasingly manifesting in today’s world.
Allen is someone who frequently uses “fiat” as an adjective, so naturally, we delve into the importance of moving away from the fiat monetary system in favor of a Bitcoin standard.
Overall, this is a fascinating conversation at the crossroads of Free Cities and Bitcoin. A big thank you to Allen for taking the time to join me.
Enjoy the conversation.
