Titus Gebel: Free Private Cities Book Update
“We are talking about forming new societies. I mean, it’s a big topic, but I think the main things have been covered now. I think I can say that because it took me 30 years to get the knowledge to write the book and I have discussed this topic intensely with all kinds of people all over the world. I can say that we’ve probably got everything covered.”

Today we have Titus Gebel back on the podcast and this time we’re talking about the update he has just published to his classic book Free Private Cities: Making Governments Compete for You.
What’s new in 2023? What has been deleted from previous manuscripts? And what lessons have we learned since the last edition was published just over five years ago?
Of particular interest to me were questions that I had about the preferred architecture and design of Free Private Cities along with Free Cities culture, ethics, and a rundown of the main innovations that have emerged since the last book was released.
We end the show by discussing the COVID pandemic and how Titus predicts that a Free Private City operator would respond to something similar were it to occur in the future.
If you’re interested in the other two podcasts I’ve recorded with Titus, try episode 036 for a deep dive into medieval city-states and episode 034 for a broader discussion about the movement in general.
Enjoy the conversation.
